The Stairway by Alex Torterotot (2011)

The Stairway (L'Escalier) by Alexandra Torterotot was the winner of the first ever FILMSshort competition. Torterotot is a French filmmaker and The Stairway was shot in her native Paris. Written by Sylvain Aubert-Garmendia, it is a simple and nightmarish story of a man who cannot escape a never-ending but always changing series of stairways. When not making short films, Alexandra works as a script supervisor and putting together feature films.

When I first saw this short film, I had the mixed feeling. At the beginning, nothing unusual happened, tired guy was returning home after a hard day of work, nothing more. However, towards the middle part, I was desperate to see what is going to happen next. When the thriller music started, it made the film much more interesting to watch, because of unexpectedness. Personally, I really like horror and thriller movies with controversial endings. This short film was like it, and personally, I enjoyed watching it.

Pixels by Patrick Jean (2009)

I was searching the web-site, which I talked about in my previous post and found a very good short film to watch. 

Here it is: 

French filmmaker Patrick Jean had made several short animations before hitting the big time with Pixels. Adam Sandler liked it so much that he struck a deal with Jean to turn his simple, high-concept idea into a Ghostbusters-like action comedy...

I decided to put this short film to my blog not only because it is a great idea to create such film, but also because it involves graphics design.  For my production, I have also decided to create a short film, therefore, I thought it would be a good idea to look at short films, which involves the skills of graphical representation. Furthermore, this short film also has a variety of different shots, which would be helpful to look at, if you are planning to do a film, which require both, graphics design and a lot of different shots.

The idea of this short film is so simple, but that is exactly what makes it unusual, and interesting to watch.

The start is made

For an introduction of A2, I have started looking at short films, which is going to be a part of my A2 course. 

To start with, I made a research on short films and found an amazing web-site to look at, in the early stage of A2 course. This web-site (click on the LINK) is very helpful towards choosing the right genre for your own production. In addition, the site involve the variety of different short films from around the world. Later on, during the production process, it would be significantly important to make the audience research. The fact that films throughout the world are gathered in one web-site, makes it much more easier to get the audience research. 

One of the short films, which I found very unusual and clever was called "The Black Hole"
